RAC Minibus BreakdownWell what can I say, I have just got back after a run to Gatwick Airport.

On the way I had the misfortune of my bus breaking down.

I had 8 passengers on board and their flight to Mexico was leaving at 1pm – I had collected them at 10am and we broke down at 10:30am, 2 and a half hours before the flight.

Now I am not normally worried about breaking down, but this family were heading off on an all inclusive holiday that had cost them thousands of pounds.

The atmosphere in the minibus went from euphoria to deep depression in a very short space of time.

When I took out my bus insurance policy it came with breakdown cover, althouth me being cynical I assumed it was just a basic package…so I rung them up and was told someone would be with me shortly and to sit tight (on the hard shoulder of the M25 in pouring rain).

Fifteen minutes passed and everyone was losing hope of us getting to the airport, in fact I had already phoned a couple of private hire taxi friends to come and complete the remaining leg of the journey.

Suddenly, like a vision over the horizon I saw an orange RAC van coming, there is no way this can be for me, I thought….wrong! It was, this was some kind of miracle.

Even more miraculous was the fact the RAC guy got the minibus working within ten minutes! I couldn’t thank him enough, although I didn’t have time to labour the point.

We ended up getting to Gatwick an hour and a half before the flight and I had a text from the family saying they were safely in the departure lounge, let’s hope the same thing doesn’t happen to the plane!

Until now I had never realised the value of having breakdown cover, now I won’t be driving the bus without it, what I can’t believe is that it came free with my insurance, which I got from total minibus insurance. so thank you guys!
